Art (2d/3d) – Join Ann for another 2D and 3D art quest. Children will use a variety of materials to paint, mold, draw, print, collage and more! Instructor: Ann Rosen, BNS art teacher
Aviation Club – Build and fly model planes from scratch. Explore the world of aviation and build 3-4 model planes. Each aviator learns to read plans, use metric rulers, make necessary calculations and work with different hobby tools. http://www.thehobbyquest.comGrades: k-2.
Capoeira – Capoeira is an art form that combines music, singing, dance, martial art and acrobatics. Itis also culture, exercise and self-discipline.
Kids’ Capoeira (younger grades) classes are taught using games and exercises emphasizing music and acrobatics—working both physical coordination and mental abilities. Classes cover basic capoeira techniques, rhythms, instruments, and songs in Portuguese. It also emphasizes cooperation and spatial awareness and focuses on building basic physical skills and coordination. Students begin to learn acrobatic movements and improve balance and coordination of the arms and legs. Kids’ Capoeira for older grades emphasizes skill building and leadership, and builds strength, flexibility, and endurance. Students also begin learning more complex acrobatics and sequences of movements. We have capoeira t shirts available for all beginners’ students. Dance SMART-4-Kidz - Our renowned, evidence-based program now features dance instruction.At least once per semester a new dance form and the culture it comes from will be introduced. Styles such as Modern, Folk, Afro-Cuban, Hip-Hop, Native-American, Asian, etc, will have the kids moving and learning about the world while having a spirit-enhancing blast. Digital Photography – Learn the basics of digital photography: photographing, editing, and printing your own digital photos. Grades: 3-5, Ann Rosen
Gardening:What's happening in the plant world when summer is over? Using our own garden bed and take-home projects, we'll be harvesting and tasting fall produce; preparing and planting the bed with cold-loving crops; and exploring growing edibles indoors. Jewelry Making – If you enjoy accessories, join Taura for jewelry making. The class is open to 3rd - 5th graders. You need not have previous jewelry making skills. We move at a pace so that everyone leaves class with the knowledge and creativity. We design bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Juguemos A Cantar – Spanish for children is designed to introduce children to the Spanish language and to maintain the language skills of those who are already fluent with the guidance of a fully-trained and educated native speaker and instructor through music, play, and more. Pre-readers will learn through song, rhymes, and games. All levels, especially continuing students. Grades: pk-1.
Karate – Seido Karate is a traditional Japanese form of martial arts. It is a fun way for kids to learn self defense, build confidence and self esteem as well as focus on discipline, respect and concentration. Hand, elbow, knee, and foot techniques are taught based on their effectiveness and practical application. Keyboarding– Students will become familiar with the keyboard, learn musical notation, and practice their musical skills. Sounds can be as beautiful as a real piano and jazzy as a keyboard. Knitting –Knitters will be supported to create their own pieces using different techniques, materials, and tools.Materials will be supplied for a modest fee ($15) or you can bring your own supplies: Bulky Yarn with bamboo needles to match (size around US 10). Yarn needle, rubber needle tips, scissors and a crochet hook to make repairs are good to have on hand. Grades: 2-5 Instructor: Tricia Nash.
Mandarin - Join Laoshe Yi Jue and the Lango kids in our adventure-filled class which incorporates team games, arts and crafts, music, drama, movement and storytelling to teach Mandarin!
